RPTE 30: Case of the Saddies.

Raddest Photo Trip Ever Day 19: Travel

Once again I am sitting at the Starbucks at the international airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The majority of our group made our way out to the airport early this morning at 3am. We've already said good-bye to Erin, and although I am on a different flight than the rest of the group here, I was thinking we'd all flight out the same time (we have the same departure time). But... I just found out their flight is delayed for three hours. Somehow they're going to need make their connecting flight to Taiwan, then each of their respective flights to their homes.

Yikes. Shoot them some prayers that they make it home safely and won't have to come home late or miss their flights!

p.s. (my flight's still on time and I'll be leaving thailand in two hours!)

I have arrived.

So I've been traveling with United and other Star Alliance flights since my last year in college. I've used a Star Alliance airline for most of my trips since (three years). United and its partners are fairly cheap. Usually, they are the cheapest flight and because they have so many flights, usually have a flight that meets my traveling preferred schedule. I remember the days when I used to get a meal, snacks, pillow and blanket on my five hour flights. Nowadays, I have to pay for checking in bags, food and pretty much anything else. So I was ELATED when I discovered I'm now a Premier member. I get perks now! I can get upgraded. I can get discounts. Best of all, I get to check two bags in for FREE! wooooot! I have arrived!

I am blessed.

I am so blessed... and here's why..... At 3:30am EST this morning I took a cab to LaGuardia airport from Manhattan. I chatted it up with the taxi driver and got to the airport for $22.10! But when I looked for my wallet I realized I didn't have it. I frantically called my friend to look for it at her house. The taxi driver stopped the meter and so patiently waited as I looked for it. I ended up having to go all the way back to Manhattan. My friend paid for the cab fare and we went to look again through her bedroom. When I finally gave up, she went to the bathroom and found it on the counter! whew! I got to the street corner and it was pouring rain. An off-duty taxi picked me up because "he couldn't stand to let a woman stand in the rain" and drove me to an on-duty taxi driver to take me to the airport. Needless to say, I still made it to my 6:15am flight.

Thank you... ...to the first taxi driver who was so patient with me as I looked for my wallet ...to my girlfriend who woke up at 4am to look for my wallet and pay my cab fare ...to the empty seat next to me on my layover to Chicago ...to the second taxi driver who didn't want me to wait in the rain
